The MiWay SURF Swim happened on 29 May, with 200 of you coming out to brave the Ironman 70.3 swim route early on a Sunday morning! It was a super event, and each person conquered their goals for the day.
Nervous swimmers’ fears were put to rest, and the experienced triathletes had a chance to test their fitness before the big event. For those who made the decision to come, they can rest easy at the Ironman knowing that they are able to complete the swim under the time limit.
For the serious athletes there to compete, there was action galore. Big names Donovan Van Gelder, Brad Venter, Haig Gibb and Craig Wilson were among the frontrunners. First out of the water was Sanele Nxumalo in a fast 26:09. He was closely followed by top swimmer, Sasha-Lee Nordengen 10 seconds later. Cliff Lynne (ex-Olympic Swimmer and one of SA’s all-time great pool swimmers) was second with Craig Wilson scooping third spot on the podium. Nix O Driscoll placed second in the ladies event with Clare Ramsey taking home the bronze medal.
Thanks to MiWay ambassador Glen Gore for helping out our swimmers! Now for the Ironman!
